NO PARKING IN THE STAFF CARPARK

We are disappointed to report that, despite previous reminders in the Parish Post newsletters, some parents are still parking in the staff car park.

Parents and carers must not use the staff car park between 8.15am - 4.30pm unless they have been specifically given a school-issued pass.

We have recently experienced a number of issues, including:

    • Cars being parked at the top of the slope, preventing staff from entering/exiting the car park.
    • Cars being left in the middle of the car park, with hazard lights on, while parents walk into the playground to drop off their child.
    • The disabled parking bay being used by people who do not have a blue badge or who do not have the person to whom the blue badge relates to in the vehicle with them.

These situations can cause significant disruption and, more importantly, can create safety concerns for children, families and staff. A child was nearly knocked over recently as a child ran across the carpark.

Please be aware that if you park in the staff car park without authorisation, you should expect to be approached by a member of staff and asked to move your vehicle. Please do not take offence if you are challenged — staff are simply enforcing the school's parking arrangements to ensure the car park remains safe and accessible for everyone who is authorised to use it.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us to keep the school site safe.

COMMON EXCEPTION WORDS AND TEST DATES

    Dear parents and carers,

Please use the “spelling guide”  to support  spelling practice at home (not the common exception list in the homework document) with your child.

The guide contains the spelling lists for each year group, allowing parents and carers to see exactly which words their child will be learning throughout the year. It also includes the spelling test dates, making it easy to see which list children are currently working on and when they will be assessed.

A new "Common exception words" page has been created under the Curriculum page to enable easy navigation. Please see the below link:

    CURRICULUM PRESENTATIONS

    Dear parents and carers,

Each year in England, school children in Reception and Year 6 have their height and weight checked at school as part of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). This will take place on Thursday 15th October 2026.

This is a national opt out programme so if you do not wish your child to be measured please email the School Aged Immunisation and Screening Team.

Please refer to the below letter for further details.

    Many thanks.

SIR LINKALOT - SUPPORT YOUR CHILDS SPELLING AT HOME

Sir Linkalot Brings the ‘World of Linking’ to Our School

We are extremely excited to be welcoming Sir Linkalot (Andy Salmon) to our school on Wednesday 30th September for a very special day dedicated to making spelling memorable, engaging and fun.

Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us from 8:45–9:10am on Wednesday 30th September for a special session with Andy. This will be an opportunity to hear directly from Sir Linkalot, discover how his approach works and learn how the same strategies can be used to support spelling at home. You are very welcome to bring your little ones along too!

Throughout the rest of the day, Andy will be working with children from Years 1–6, introducing them to his ‘World of Linking’ and showing them a completely different way of remembering those tricky words that can be so difficult to spell.

Sir Linkalot uses mnemonics, memorable links, humour and animation to take words off the page and bring them to life. Instead of simply asking children to learn a word through repetition, children are encouraged to use their imaginations to create connections that help the spelling stick in their memory.

The approach can be used from the very beginning of a child’s spelling journey, including tricky red/sight words for younger children, right through to the common exception and high-frequency words children encounter in Key Stage 2 – and even particularly challenging words beyond these.

This alternative to rote learning can be particularly valuable for children who find traditional spelling strategies difficult. Many dyslexia associations endorse the approach, as rote learning does not work effectively for every learner. Children whose first language is not English can also benefit from taking words off the page and animating them in this way, helping to break down some of the barriers presented by the English language, which is far from completely phonetic.

The approach has attracted some famous supporters too, including Sir Stephen Fry, who described it as “utterly brilliant!”

Want to see what it's all about?

If you would like a taste of what the children will experience before Andy's visit, take a look at the Sir Linkalot Taster Video. Keep watching until the end to hear from Sir Stephen Fry!

    Supporting spelling at home

Alongside Sir Linkalot's visit, families can use our school Spelling Guide to support spelling practice at home.

The guide contains the spelling lists for each year group, allowing parents and carers to see exactly which words their child will be learning throughout the year. It also includes the spelling test dates, making it easy to see which list children are currently working on and when they will be assessed.

Please use the link to the homework page to view the Spelling Guide:

Children will have regular spelling tests as well as review tests, which revisit words from previous lists. These review tests are designed to encourage children to remember their spellings over time rather than learning them for one test and then forgetting them.

The Spelling Guide also includes information about Sir Linkalot and how to access and use the resource at home, giving families another way to practise together and reinforce the memorable links and strategies children are learning in school.

We are really looking forward to welcoming Andy to our school and hope as many parents and carers as possible can join us for the morning session before our pupils enter the World of Linking!

    Kind Regards

    Mrs Marlow
